link hereI hate my job. I worked last year 14-15 hours a day with no lunch to try and to make up for its computer mishaps. Their "so called" experiment keeps shutting down, screens freezing up, applets disappearing while your on the phone with customers. Adjusters get between 50-80 calls a day from dr's offices, lawyer offices, insureds and claimants, checking status on their claims in addition to the aforementioned occuring, people calling thinking that you have nothing else to do but to talk with them, but little do they know that we adjusters have time limits to pay on claims, by law, and we cannot pay on them while we are sitting on the phone with people griping about their issues, if they would just realize that if they would give us a break, we could their payment out a whole lot faster, but because we get so many phone calls on a daily basis this slows us down, especially on "status checks." They want to know what the status is, especially when they called not even two days ago.
I hate to tell you, but the status hasn't changed!!! Then they get mad, "well, how much longer is this going to take, I've submitted this claim over 3 months ago," But when the adjuster looks at the claim, yeah the claim was indeed submitted 3 months ago, but we just got the paperwork in "3" days ago.... GET IT!!!! We can't start until the paperwork is received!!! Yep, that's right. Also, don't submit pregnancy, health related bills to a claims adjuster re: a car accident, that slows us down, too!!!! We have to take the time out to review those bills, to determine what's related and what's not, geesee.... come on, submit that stuff to your health insurance that's what you have it for. Realize that when you leave a message for the claims representative, please understand that we have other people that have called way ahead of you, your call will be returned in the order that it was received, if you haven't heard from us in 24 hours then yes, call us back, as we do genuinly try to return calls the same business day. At least the good ones do. Don't get upset with the adjuster unless you have a legitimate reason. Remember, they're under a whole lot of stress and some of us whether you know it or not, due to the stress involved, are wearing heart monitors to monitor our hearts, we're also on b-pressure medicine and antidepressants just to help us to cope with the stress involved. Yep, you people didn't know that's happening to your good 'ol adjuster!!! That's why some of them leave the office, they can't take it any more. Try working like I mentioned earlier 14-15 hours w/out lunch/or break, you throw food down your throat while picking up the phone to answer with your mouth full as that's the only time you have to eat!!! Literally. They say air traffic controllers are under much stress? I would have to say.... so are the adjusters... Try handling 300-400 claim units per any given time and then go through all the paperwork submitted then to have an insured call you up and say, "I can do a better job then you can." Well, honey, bring it on, let's see if you can really do a better job. You have children and a family at home and you can't enjoy them as this job is taking your time up. You say, we'll go and find another job, but it's easier said than done..... when it's the only thing you've ever known how to do and your experienced in it to a point that you eat, live, sleep, drink, poop, dream insurance. Then you have courses 15 hours a year you have to take to keep up on the current laws and to keep your license renewed, as the laws, as you well know, changes daily due to frivolus law suits. Yep, you got it! Stupid lawsuits,as people are sooooo money hungry. that's another reason why our insurance rates go up. Speaking of that, we adjusters do not get discounted rates working for an insurance company. So, please understand we're customers, too. We get it in our pocket book, too. Let's see what else, we don't get paid overtime for working these extra hours, it's put in absolutely free unless upper management approves it. Isn't that something? Insurance... LOL. they charge you out the wazu and can't afford to pay their adjusters overtime to work the claims that the very insurance company is insuring. Insurance adjusters aught to become a union! I don't like unions, but hey, might as well be a union. Now, I feel better since I've vented and let off some steam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
