I hate that the n word is immersed in black culture, and that a double standard now surrounds it. It is used so often between black people that everyone is becoming desensitized to it, and yet, if a non-black person says it, even when reciting song lyrics, it becomes offensive again.
I know it is a hateful word loaded with a terrible past, but that's why no one should be permitted to use it, not just white people. If it's still offensive when a non-black person says it, then it's still offensive period, so it should be allowed to fade into obscurity where it belongs.
That's why I hate how commonplace it is in black speech. Everyone needs to stop it. You're not being empowered by using it, you're just maintaining the divide between races by keeping this word alive and alienating those still "forbidden" from using it. Let it go. Stop using it in songs. Stop using it to describe yourselves and those of your race. And most of all, stop using it to separate yourselves from the rest of us. Sep 11 7:17 AM MST
